Natural Wisdom

Animals have a way of healing themselves.

From shamanic folk medicine to modern zoologists, such as Jane Goodall studying chimps, observing how wild animals forage for specific herbs has revealed a world of natural wisdom.

This wisdom is informed by the superior olfactory powers of animals as they, quite literally, sniff out remedies for health problems. These problems might include parasites and the need for pain relief, or to seek specific vitamins and minerals to optimise health.

Domestic Animals and Foraging

Domestic animals don’t share the same opportunities for foraging as their wild counterparts. Horses at pasture are no longer able to learn from a centuries’ old herd culture that has involved foraging over wide-ranging territories.

However, most people are aware of how dogs will eat grass to purge themselves, and horse riders know all too well the distracting temptations of the hedgerow while out on a hack!
